Fires Crib Point

Written by: site manager   On: 23rd Jan, 2016

January 2016 has seen two fires in two weeks.  The first was a small fire on the 11th on the foreshore reserve south of Disney Street. CFA Volunteers called in support to ensure they were able to control the fire quickly, which they did.

The second was on the 18th in the old refinery land just off the Esplande this fire quickly spread south and when the wind changed, it pushed the fire on to the reserve and north, surrounding the houses at Golden Point.

Fortunately the quick action of the CFA with the support of water bombers managed to keep the fire from destroying all the houses, unfortunately one was destroyed while the others sufferd damage.  The residents are safe.

The Foreshore Committee wish to express our thanks to the Crib Point CFA and those volunteers from other districts for the tireless effort they contributed, without which the result could have been much worse.

The Foreshore Reserve shows the effect of the fire and there is a lot of work to be done, but hopefully over the next 6-8months regeneration will start.
